Currently, the FDA has banned only 11 ingredients for use in cosmetics. In Europe, 1,328 ingredients are banned and deemed unsafe for consumer use. (Read the full list here) “Unsafe” means they are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects. Some of these ingredients banned in Europe include Parabens, Synthetic fragrance, Phthalates, Sodium laurel sulfate, Triclosan (now banned in the US!) Petroleum, Formaldehyde, and Talc.
