TGIF!! Now, this may be poor timing of this post if you indulged in some pumpkin pie yesterday (Sorry!!), but going into the holiday season I would like to talk about the effects of consuming sugar on the skin. You may have heard about this in the media or on social, as there is a buzz around everything nutrition nowadays. Here are the facts you need to know (and why I avoid processed sugar almost always!)   This is what actually happens to the skin when glucose is floating around without protein or carbs to bind to! As glucose moves through your bloodstream in abundance (which also includesRead More →

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Almost a year ago, I started this blog. I was on maternity leave with my second daughter, and had been sitting on the idea of creating a space in which I can deliver the latest and greatest information about skincare that is evidence based and factual, to take the guesswork out of it for consumers, for almost two years. I decided to go for it, and I can honestly say that it hasn’t been possible without you, my readers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your questions, to all of the wonderful professionals I haveRead More →

Happy Monday y’all! I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving already! I hope everyone has a great start to their week and hopefully having some relaxing time off! I thought I would share my philosophy to flawless skin- I will share more in depth in future posts. Here are my keys to beautiful skin at any age: A proper, nutritious diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals and fatty acids (A paleolithic diet is ideal); appropriate water intake (you should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of H2O per day and eating at least 6 servings of water based vegetables) You can read my postRead More →

TGIF y’all!!!! In today’s post I am going to share some very safe alternatives to Retinol and Salicylic Acid to use as an exfoliant during pregnancy! This is by no means an exhaustive list but these are my favorites! Mandelic Acid Mandelic acid is derived from bitter almonds. It is also an Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Its molecules are very large which makes it take longer to penetrate the skin, causing less irritation. This is my absolute favorite acid for pregnancy related acne. It also helps to control pigmentation and lessen fine lines and wrinkles. I use pads soaked in a Mandelic Acid solution that we carry at the spa in ourRead More →

Hey y’all! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween! I’ve had to update my latest regimen for you- pregnancy as well as working in a new spa has caused me to change my routine!  AM Routine: AM- Cleanse with a swipe of Heritage Rose Water, I cleanse my eye area with Clinique’s Rinse-off Eye makeup Solvent (I love it because it does not leave an oily residue!) On very dry skin, I apply Synergy’s Revitalizing Serum- this is a C & E Ferulic formulation. The medical spa that I work at uses a pharmacy called Young Pharmaceuticals and they compound all of our medical gradeRead More →

TGIF y’all! This is a topic I have been meaning to write about for quite some time because there is a LOT of confusion around it! Let’s just jump in. This is NOT a medical microneedling device. This is a dermal roller. (Above) If you have this roller at home, that’s great! The needle depths are hypodermic which means they just skin the stratum corneum or top layer of the epidermis (Typically about .5mm deep). Using it weekly can assist in product penetration and provide a mild mechanical exfoliation. It is not deep enough to induce significant collagen production. I repeat: It is not deep enoughRead More →

What is Reiki?   Reiki means “Universal Life Force Energy”   Origins of Reiki: The system of Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in 1922 while performing Isyu Guo, a twenty-one day Buddhist training course held on Mount Kurama. Dr. Usui began the training as a Christian living in a primarily Buddhist region of Japan, because he wanted to understand how Jesus healed people with his hands and raised the dead. The training involved meditation, fasting, chanting, and prayer. At the end of the 21 days, Dr. Usui had a mystical revelation gaining the knowledge and spiritual power to apply and attune othersRead More →
