“I felt so unsure of my skincare products and process, and Ashli cleared everything up! She offered simple, relevant information about what products I should use and how I should implement their use and why. Not only was she super knowledgeable, but also a total delight to talk with. Instead of getting advice from a sales-driven counter clerk, it was more like talking with a bestie that just wanted me to have healthy, beautiful skin and knew how to get me there.”- H.M.   “Her positivity and light still shine alllllll the way over here. I love what she’s doing with The Skincare Belle. Her posts are educational, sincereRead More →

Not all sunscreens are created equal….Do you know the active ingredients in your sunscreen and why this is important?  In June 2011, the FDA issued new guidelines for sunscreen labeling so that consumers would know what they are putting on their skin. The labels still don’t quite make it clear- I’ll get you in the know! Let’s start with the basics- UVA & UVB Radiation To help you remember-  The “A” stands for “Aging” rays- UVA radiation causes wrinkles, collagen loss, compromised barrier function, and free radical damage. Lentigos, or “liver spots” (those unsightly brown spots that can appear on the skin as we age), areRead More →

Pregnancy is such a special time in any woman’s life, but caring for the skin during this time requires special considerations! Teratogens and Product Safety A teratogen refers to an agent or a factor which contributes to the malformation of an embryo. Drugs and chemicals fall into this category. It’s important to be aware of the safety of what you are putting on your skin while baby is on board. Isotretinoin, a Vitamin A derivative found in the prescriptions Accutane and Retin-A are a definite NO. OTC Retinoids and medical grade retinoids are best avoided until pregnancy and breastfeeding are over. You may see it listed asRead More →

Hi Skincare Belle! Wondering what some good skin care products are for young teens that don’t break the bank??  Specifically, cleansers. Currently, she is using, Benefit’s toning lotion & a drugstore Cleanser. Thanks doll! Frugal Mama Hey Frugal Mama! GREAT question. Teens have the benefit of youth and therefore do not need to invest any money in correctives and result-oriented treatments for anti-aging. Teen have the very specific need to keep their skin clean, hydrated, and to treat acne if indicated. The key is also identifying her skin type, which will determine the appropriateness of the products being used (for example- if she has combination skin is sheRead More →

In this post, I’m going to walk you through a mild at-home peel featuring Peter Thomas Roth’s 40% Triple Acid Peel!   Step One Cleanse the skin with a gel cleanser containing mild detergents such as Simply Clean by Skin Ceuticals.  Dry skin very thoroughly with a towel. Step Two Break ampoule and apply peel product onto the pad provided. Step Three Swipe onto the skin, thoroughly saturating skin with peel product. It should feel “stingly”- a combination of stinging and tingly. Leave on for 2 minutes. (n.b. If you decide to do this as a series of weekly consecutive peels, you may increase the timeRead More →

Cold weather & wind, running the heat constantly at home and in the car can be a recipe for disaster (or at least discomfort!) for delicate facial skin. What to do? You may need to re-think your basic regimen for winter Unless your skin is naturally ULTRA dry (think- absolutely NO oil whatsoever), it may not be appropriate to cleanse twice per day during the winter season. I recommend using a swipe of toner in the morning (typically a gentle rose water will do! I love Little Barn Apothecary’s Aloe and Rosewater Mist) and then follow with a moisturizer that is slightly heavier than one you wouldRead More →
